A great song off of his first solo album. Dave is the former guitarist and primary songwriter for the Blasters. On this album his roots rock influences (so evident on the Slash record releases), are combined with country and folk influences. He has recorded a number of version of this song, this live version is probably my favorite. From a bass players perspective this is a straight forward song. Check out the bass line starting at 2:13 or so. Things get busier and more interesting- check out the 2 measures of walking bass over the C chord.
A Classic Mid 80's Cow-Punk (Country Punk) tune released on Slash Records. Check out the bass line in the Chorus starting on Measure 21. Going from a standard Root - 5th groove to R 5 8 / 8 7 8 b5 5 - R 5 8 / 8 9 8
Here's a good song for a beginner bassist. A straight forward song with a cool transition from C to Em. It's played for the first time in measure 4.
Another great Americana / alternative country band. A pretty straight forward tune, with a interesting twist. I especially like the Bb F/A Gm progression ( Starting at measure 17). Instead of Root / 5th fifth for the F/A he plays the 3rd then F Octave (8th) and a chromatic passing note to the Gm. In the chorus he plays a Dotted Quarter Note Rhythm over some of the C chords (measure 4 of the Chorus) which really jumps out after the 2 feel that has been played through out the song.
